Our Christmas Gift Came Early

Welcome Josie!

OK - so this is two weeks late, but a crazy two weeks it has been. I promise to be better about posting!

On Sunday, November 30th Christmas came early when Josephine Marie Kemper was born two weeks early! I was due on December 15th but my doctor had decided that we could induce on December 9th. This gave me what I thought was two more weeks to prep for baby. My mom came in on November 29th to help with the nursery and run a bunch of last minute errands. We got soo much done that day (including finally packing my bags!) and I was exhausted!

The next morning I had plans to go return some things and get a pedicure but I was still soo tired. Mom had already left and Sean was busy putting up the Christmas tree and cleaning up around the house so I decided to take a nap. Around 11am I woke up to my water breaking! This was a complete surprise because I hadn't had a single contraction. I went outside and told Sean and the look on his face was priceless. We grabbed our stuff and off to the hospital we went - I was actually calmer than Sean!

They immediately got me into labor and delivery and a doctor came in to check things out. Unfortunately I was only 1 1/2 cm dilated so I had a ways to go. The nurses told us that it could be as late as the next day when we would have our baby. They started the process to induce labor. I called mom and dad and told them to take their time. Sean then ran home to get a few things we left. Little did we know - Josie had other plans...

Once the drip started and my contractions got stronger, the baby's heart rate started dropping. There I was in the hospital alone when they hooked me up to oxygen and started paging doctors with scary codes. I could see the fetal monitor drop down below 50 and all I wanted was Sean. I was so scared at that point and then it started going back up again - the nurses assured me everything was ok at that point and Sean had sped back and was there when the doctor told us that inducing labor was not boding well for baby and that in between contractions her heart rate wasn't having time to recover. They were going to try one more time but the doctor prepared me for an emergency c-section. Good thing my family and friends were already on their way. They tried once more and sure enough her heart rate dropped again. Without wasting any time they gave Sean some scrubs to put on, started prepping me, let me kiss my family and wheeled me off to surgery.

It was pretty scary, not going to lie but it all happened so fast I didn't have time to think about it! I got the spinal block, they let Sean in surgery and before I knew it I heard a baby crying! Everyone was so nice and knowing that Sean and I did not know the sex of the baby they had asked us before we started what names we picked out. When we heard cries they announced that Josephine was here!!

I have never been so overwhelmed with emotions than at that time. One minute I was pregnant Toni and not 15 minutes later I was mommy Toni. She was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen and the funniest part was her full head of hair - she looked just like her daddy!!!

My parents and sister and Sean's parents were all there and my girls from back home (Mumph, Linny & Missy) surprised me by being there when I got out of surgery! Here are just a few pics from the hospital. Now that I got the hang of the posting thing I will put some more pics up from the last two weeks soon!

Proud daddy!

Welcome to the Kemper's blog!

One more month to go before we welcome Baby Kemper into this world so I am starting this blog to help keep family and friends updated as we get closer and more importantly when Baby Kemper gets here!!

Sean and I are expecting our first on December 15th. We decided to wait to find out what we are having so we are thrilled for what will be the best Christmas present we could ask for. I can't forget to mention Nola Belle, our older "child" (a bit hairy and 82 lbs), who is excited to meet her little brother or sister!

I will try to be good about posting pics as I get them and hopefully soon I can post some of the nursery! This one is Sean and I at a wedding two weeks ago. Once I figure out this whole blogging thing I will post some more from the past few exciting months!!
